Hourly and As-Directed Chauffeur Hire

Hourly hire is the right choice when a day has more than two or three stops, or when you do not yet know the order they will happen in. You book a window, not a route, and the vehicle stays with you for it.

What It Suits

Business days with several meetings across the CBD and inner suburbs. Sightseeing where the itinerary is likely to shift. Shopping days where the boot fills up. Long lunches and events where nobody wants to drive. Regional days such as the Yarra Valley or the Mornington Peninsula, where the plan changes as you go. A full tour day is priced as a tour instead, so ask for both and take whichever suits.

How the Booking Works

Tell us the start time, the rough plan and the number of hours you expect. The chauffeur works to your direction on the day. If the plan changes, it changes, and there is nothing to re-quote so long as you stay inside the booked window.

Bags Stay in the Car

This is the practical difference guests notice most. Coats, shopping, laptop bags and cases stay in the vehicle between stops, which removes the cloakroom problem from a full day out.

Pricing

Hourly hire is charged by the hour according to vehicle class, in Australian dollars including GST: Economy $81, Business Class $90, Van & Group $90, First Class $144 and Enthusiast $285. These match our per-minute waiting rates worked out over sixty minutes. Road tolls and parking are not included and are charged on top. The minimum is two hours in Economy and Business Class, and three hours in Van & Group, First Class and Enthusiast. Rates can be different overnight, on public holidays and on major event days such as New Year's Eve, the Grand Prix, the Australian Open and the Melbourne Cup. A full tour day is priced as a tour rather than at these hourly rates. All of that is confirmed in your quote before you commit.

Vehicles

Most hourly work runs in Business Class. Groups above four use a van, which also suits a shopping or regional day where boot space matters.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the minimum booking?
Two hours in Economy and Business Class, three hours in Van & Group, First Class and Enthusiast. Send us the hours you have in mind and we will confirm the minimum that applies before you commit to anything.
What if we run over the booked hours?
Tell the chauffeur as early as you can. Extra time is usually possible at the same rate, though a later booking on the same vehicle can limit it.
Does the chauffeur wait or leave between stops?
The chauffeur and vehicle stay with you for the whole window. That is the point of an hourly booking, and it is why bags and shopping can stay in the car.
Do we need to give the full itinerary up front?
A rough shape helps with planning and with anything that needs booking ahead, but the route is directed by you on the day.
Can we change the plan during the day?
That is what as-directed means. Add a stop, drop one, or change the order. Inside the booked window nothing needs re-quoting.
Is hourly cheaper than separate transfers?
Past three or four stops it usually is, and it is always more flexible. For two fixed points with nothing in between, a point-to-point transfer is better value.
Are tolls and parking included in hourly hire?
Not in the hourly rate. Road tolls and parking during an hourly booking are charged on top, so a day with a paid car park or a run along CityLink adds those costs to the bill. Point-to-point transfers work differently: their quote already includes tolls.
